Johnny ManzielOnline education just became even more mainstream.

Johnny Manziel is one of the biggest names in college football right now.  Why?  Because this past year he succeeded at being the first college freshman to ever win the coveted Heisman Trophy.

Playing for Texas A&M, Manziel (also known as Johnny Football) went from being red-shirted in his first game to a record setting football player by the end of the season.  Ultimately, Johnny was able to lead his team to victory over Oklahoma in the prestigious Cotton Bowl Classic.

On top of being the first freshman to win the Heisman, Johnny was also the first freshman to win the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award.

Now you might be wondering what this has to do with online education.  Well, Johnny Manziel recently announced that for his second semester at Texas A&M, he is taking all of his classes online.

Online Educated Football Star

Johnny will remain a fulltime student at Texas A&M, but will do so without having to set foot on campus.  His reasons for going online mostly relate to his newfound fame.  In fact, he had originally had one class that was going to be on campus.

Despite being a small class, the commotion it caused and the attention he received ended up being too much.  Now is has gone all virtual.

What Does This Mean for Online Education?

While this might be a rare case of why someone would choose online classes, we think it’s a great example of how diverse online students are.  There are a number of reasons why a person might take their classes online.

Maybe you work during the day.

Maybe are unable to travel to school.

Or maybe you’re really famous and don’t want to be mobbed.

Regardless of your reason, we don’t like to think of online school as an alternative to brick and mortar schools.  We like to see them as equal options standing side by side.  Whether it’s online college, or online high school, online education is a great choice for many people.

Even Heisman Trophy winners.
