5 Classes You Didn’t Know You Could Take At EHS

Remember when the most crucial decision you had to make was what type of brick to build Steve’s house out of in Minecraft?  Or when the toughest situation you found yourself in was helping Link solve puzzles on the way to the next boss battle? Since you were a kid, you’ve been making decisions left and right. Some decisions felt crucial (and really weren’t) while other decisions didn’t feel like a big deal (and turned out to be important).

When it comes to the classes you take during high school, you can really start to feel pressured to make the best decisions for your future. High school is also a time of exploration and self-discovery, so it’s okay to have some fun by taking interesting classes that will help you figure out what you enjoy and what challenges you.  Excel High School has some unique courses that you might not have known we offer. By investigating your interests and options through these classes, you can discover more about yourself along the way.

Sports Medicine

If you’re interested in athletics, sports medicine, physical fitness, or any career in the medical field, this class is a great way to learn a bit about anatomy and physiology through the lens of sports and athletics. Along with introducing you to some of the careers you can have in the sports medicine field, you get to learn about the body systems that make us tick. You’ll be able to identify the parts of the upper body, midsection, and lower body and explain the various injuries that can occur in each section. By the time you’re done with this class, you will have a much better idea of whether you want to study the human body long-term, and you’ll have a working understanding of how to take care of yourself and avoid injury, too.

Forensic Science

Forensic science is made to look pretty glamorous in videos and movies, but it takes a detail-oriented person to work through all the components and procedures of processing a crime scene, and any mistake can be seriously detrimental to a criminal case. This course will help you figure out if you’re the kind of person who can carefully collect evidence while maintaining the chain of custody while you learn about types of physical evidence, the importance of the evidence in a criminal trial, and the types of commonly used forensic investigations.

Introduction to Coding

An interest in coding can turn into a lucrative and secure career in Information Technology. Maybe you’ve even played around with some basic coding through gaming or free online tutorials. It’s always a great idea to explore your interests! This class can take you even further by teaching you how to write and test your own code, just like programmers in the field do. You’ll create hands-on projects using HTML, Website Analysis, JavaScript, and Python, some of the most practical coding languages for someone interested in computer science. By the end of this course, you’ll have a much better idea of whether you want to continue studying coding languages, but you’ll have a great foundation to keep it up as a hobby regardless!

Introduction to Tech Science

Excel offers plenty of engineering and tech courses, but if you’re not sure what direction you want to head in, then this class can help open your eyes to lots of possibilities. In the lessons, you’ll learn about fourteen different types of engineering with individual modules about biotech sciences, genetic sciences, biogenetics, information technology, the internet, as well as computer programming and languages. So if you know that you’re interested in tech sciences, but you aren’t sure what direction to investigate further, then this class will give you plenty of opportunities to learn more. From learning about the Human Genome Project to learning how the world’s digital data is stored and managed, you’ll get a good idea of what direction to explore further and have quite a bit of practical modern knowledge handy, too!

Electrical Engineering

Students who are thinking about attending a hands-on trade school to become an electrician, carpenter, machinist, radio technician, or mechanic; those who are planning to jump into a career in construction; or students who are thinking of attending a four year college to study electrical engineering will benefit a lot from this class. Maybe you’re just interested in the spark and zoom of electrical currents! Electrical technology spans plenty of different fields today, and this class will help you understand how electricity works. You’ll be ahead of the game by taking a class that offers foundational knowledge about electrical circuits as well as direct and alternating current motors and the worldwide Electric Standards.
